FAQ

We know you have questions. We had them too. We try to answer the most frequently asked questions here. If you are missing something, let us know.

Where can I get ...?

We maintain a shopping list of items that we have used in our van build. If something is missing, drop us a line.

Do you offer any build plans?

Strictly speaking, we currently do not offer any build plans. That being said, we have modelled our van in 3D with Sketchup Make and you can download our model for free from the Sketchup 3D Warehouse. Make sure to checkout our article on the how to plan your layout.

How did you build your shower?

Check out our article on how to build a minimal shower.

How do you get into your shower?

We step on the toilet, then we raise one leg and step into the shower. Reverse the process for getting out. It's simple but may not suit everybody, e.g. people with disabilities or people who cannot raise their legs for whatever reason will have problems getting into the shower.

How does the toilet work?

We built our toilet using a urine diverter, which means that your urine and your poo are separated. The urine drips through an odor trap into a tank that is mounted underneath the vehicle. The poo drops into a bucket that is equipped with two bags (gotta make sure that nothing spills) and some cover material, like wood chips, cat litter or similar. After each usage, we add more cover material from a bucket that sits right behind the poo bucket. Once the bucket is full, we throw the bags into the trash, where it will be burned eventually, just like dog poo and baby poo. If you are parked up somewhere stationary, you can compost your poo as well. Overall, we are very happy with this solution and can't stop smiling every time we see someone else having to empty a chemical toilet, which come standard with almost every "professional" campervan.

Does the toilet smell?

We're not gonna lie. When we poop into the bucket, it smells. Just like your poo, our poo smells. However, the smell disappears within two minutes once we put on cover material, close the lid, put the fan on full throttle and open the side door. After that, the smell does not come back as long as you put on enough cover material between, uhh, sessions.

But your veggies are stored next to your toilet?

OK, strictly speaking this is not a question. To be honest, we had the same concerns when finding a place for our veggies. However, since the toilet does not smell, we have zero issues with storing our veggies next to our toilet.

Do you build vans for others?

We currently enjoy our free time travelling around Europe. That being said, Dominik can imagine helping on a van build under the right circumstances. What are the right circumstances, you might ask? For starters, we like mild climates, so we're not gonna do a van build in cold or rainy weather. Also, we're not gonna do another van build without access to a shop/roof/yard or some other sort of suitable space. We have built our own van "on the curb" in the city center and we know the many disadvantages of doing this and we would like to avoid repeating the same mistake twice.

What is the size of your van?

Our van has the following dimensions:

  • Exterior Length: 636cm
  • Exterior Width: 205cm
  • Exterior Height: 282cm
  • Interior Cargo Length: 407cm (plus cockpit with swivel seats)
  • Interior Cargo Width: 180cm
  • Interior Cargo Height: ~200cm

How does the magnetic shower curtain work?

We routered magnets into the wooden walls of the shower box and into the backside of the wooden ceiling panels. We then stiched up the curtain that has magnets both on the top and the bottom that align with the magnets in the shower box and the ceiling. The bottom magnets are necessary in order to avoid the shower curtain from clinging to your body due to the air flow from the hot air rising to the top.
